Der 1973 in Kassel geborene Roland Krüger studierte bei Oleg Maisenberg und Karl-Heinz Kämmerling und gehörte von 1999 bis 2001 zu den wenigen ausgewählten Studenten der Klasse von Krystian Zimerman in Basel.
2001 wurde er mit dem 1. Preis und dem Publikumspreis des renommierten Concours de Genève ausgezeichnet — als erster Pianist seit elf Jahren. Als Solist konzertierte er mit Orchestern wie dem Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, dem Orchestre National de Belgique, der NDR-Radiophilharmonie Hannover und dem Basler Sinfonieorchester unter Dirigenten wie Fabio Luisi, Dennis Russell Davies und Marc Soustrot, in Sälen wie dem Concertgebouw Amsterdam, der Hamburger Laeiszhalle und der Kölner Philharmonie.
2002 begann er als Assistent Kämmerlings; seit 2007 ist er Professor an der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, wo er die Fachgruppe Klavier und den Studiengang Soloklasse leitet. Sein Repertoire reicht von Bach über Haydn, Beethoven und die deutsche Romantik bis zur Musik des 20. Jahrhunderts.
Born in Kassel in 1973, Roland Krüger studied with Oleg Maisenberg and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and, from 1999 to 2001, was one of the few selected students in Krystian Zimerman's class in Basel.
In 2001 he was awarded First Prize and the Audience Award at the renowned Concours de Genève — the first pianist in eleven years to receive it. As a soloist he has played with orchestras such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre National de Belgique, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and the Basel Symphony under conductors including Fabio Luisi, Dennis Russell Davies and Marc Soustrot, in halls such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg and the Cologne Philharmonie.
He began teaching in 2002 as Kämmerling's assistant; since 2007 he has been a professor at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, where he heads the keyboard group and the solo-performance programme. His repertoire ranges from Bach through Haydn, Beethoven and the German Romantics to the music of the twentieth century.
